Plunge Grinding
Automotive crankshafts are the major products made as a result of plunge grinding, or plunge grinding combined with sliding feed.

As well as traditional vitrified wheels, we can also supply a multi-layer or ‘sandwich wheel’. Normally the harder layers are on the outer surfaces so that equal wear on the wheel takes place. However, several combinations of grit, hardness and type of abrasive grain can be supplied in multi-layers.

Selection Tips

• For superior crankshaft surface finish, choose type 98A 46K 9V.
• The larger the contact surface, a coarser grit and lower hardness is recommended.
• When higher working speeds are employed (50 or 63 m/s), use softer wheels of hardness K or K/L
